Conservative candidates for the Bassetlaw District Council 2023 local elections holding a banner opposing Labour's housing plan

Your local Conservative candidates for the Bassetlaw District Council election on May 4 have been announced. This election, the first for Bassetlaw District Council since 2019, will elect 48 councillors across 25 wards for four years on Thursday, May 4. It follows major Conservative success at both the 2019 general election in which Brendan Clarke-Smith was elected as our Member of Parliament and at the 2021 Nottinghamshire County Council elections, which saw the local Conservatives hold all of our seats and make major gains in Worksop - including ousting Nottinghamshire's Labour leader.

The current make-up of the Labour-run council is: 35 Labour councillors, 6 Conservative councillors, 6 independents and 1 Liberal Democrat councillor.

Local Conservatives are campaigning against Labour's plan - backed by independents - to build 12,551 houses across the District, impacting local services and putting our NHS to breaking point.

Not only that, local Conservatives are also pledging to freeze Council Tax for one year and are pledging to keep our weekly bin collections following reductions made by Labour-run Council's across the country.

Following on from our successes over the past few years, we are also proud to announce that we are the only party in Bassetlaw to field a full slate of candidates in every ward across our District. Meaning that no matter where you live, everybody has the opportunity to vote Conservative on May 4.
